MEDICAL STANDARD FOR NCC SPECIAL ENTRY SCHEME (NAVY) Candidates meeting Height / Weight and Visual standards as per existing regulation only will be accepted.
The minimum acceptable Height is 157.5 cms. For Gorkhas and individuals belonging to hills of North Eastern region of India, Garhwal and Kumaon, the minimum acceptable height will be 5 cm less. In case of candidates from Lakshadweep, the minimum acceptable height can be reduced by 2 cms. Height and weight standards are given below : Height / Weight Standards for TGC / SSC ( T ) Entry A 10% departure from the average weight given in the Table 1 below is to be considered within normal limits. However in individuals with heavy bones and broad built as well as individuals with thin built but otherwise healthy, this may be relaxed to some extent on merit.
Visual Standards :
( i ) The acceptable visual acuity are : Distant Vision ( corrected ) better eye 6/6, worse eye 6/18, myopia of not more than minus 3.50 inducing astigmatism ( ii ) Candidates who have under-gone or have the evidence of having undergone Radial Keratotomy to improve the visual acuity, will be permanently rejected : also candidates who have undergone Laser Surgery for correction of refractive error will be considered for commission in Army if they fulfil following criteria : - ( i ) Uncomplicated stable LASIK / Excimer ( PRK ) laser procedure done for Myopia or Hypermetropia with stable refraction for a period of six months after the procedure. ( ii ) A healthy retina. ( iii ) Corrected vision should be 6/6 in better eye and 6/9 in worse eye, with maximum residual refraction of +1.50 in any meridian for myopia or hypermetropia. ( iv ) Axial length within permissible limits. 5. Physical Fitness Standard at IMA / OTA : Prospective candidates are advised to exercise and keep themselves physically fit, in order to avoid any injury due to the rigorous physical training at IMA / OTA. In order to be able to adjust to the regime there, candidates are advised to achieve following standards before joining the IMA / OTA, if finally selected;

Training and prospects : ( a ) Selected candidates for Technical Graduates Course will be detailed for training at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun and those selected for SSC ( Tech ) will be detailed for training at Officers Training Academy, Chennai according to their position in the final order of merit, discipline wise upto’ the number of vacancies available at the time. ( b ) Duration of training ( i ) TGC : One year ( ii ) SSC ( Tech ) : 49 weeks ( c ) Engineering Graduates will be granted short service commission ( on probation ) and will be entitled to draw full pay and allowances admissible to a Lt during training period. Pay and allowances will be paid after successful completion of training. ( d ) Training at IMA / OTA is at Government expense. ( e ) Technical Graduates course ( i ) Engineering Graduates will be granted permanent commission in the rank of Lt with two years antedate seniority from the date of granting commission ( f ) SSC ( Tech ) ( i ) Engineering Graduate trainees will be confirmed in Short Service Commission with an antedate seniority of two years from date of confirmation. They will however be junior to the technical Graduates granted Permanent Commission on the same date. ( ii ) Tenure of Engagement : Officers’ will be required to serve for five years and may be considered for grant of permanent commission thereafter as per existing rules. Those SSC Officers who are not selected for grant of PC but are otherwise considered fit and suitable, will be given options to continue as SSCOs for a total period of 14 years ( including the Initial tenure of 5 years ) on expiry of which they will be released from the Army, ( iii ) Reserve Liability : Short Service Commission Officer on release before or on expiry of contractual length of service will carry a reserve liability to serve the Army initially for five years + two years on voluntary basis or upto the age 40 years, whichever is earlier. 7. Pay And Allowances And Other Benefits As Applicable; Officers are initially commissioned as Lt in the pay of 8250-300-10050 with DA at present with other benefits like concessional accommodation, free medical facilities, LTC, 60 days annual leave, 20 days casual leave, canteen facilities, entitled ration as per scale etc. Army Group Insurance provides insurance cover of 15 lacs to the Gentlemen cadets of IMA and OTA from the date of joining these institutes for pre-commission training. Candidates who are medically boarded out during training at IMA / OTA on account for disability, the cover provided is 50% of insured amount for 100% disability, i.e. 7.5 lacs for 100% disability proportionately reduced to 1.5 lacs for 20% and 20,000/- for less than 20% disability. On completing the prescribed length of service in grade and subject to their suitability and medical fitness, they are promoted as Capt. and Major in the pay scale of 9600-300-11400 and 11600-325-14850 respectively. Regular officers on superannuation may be employed with the Army as re-employed officers upto the age of 58 years. |
